How We Help

We try to help serving or retired (by age or medically) NHS ambulance personnel or their dependants in times
of exceptional hardship, poverty or need. We respond to every claim in a quick, confidential and sympathetic way.
If there is a need we cannot help, we say so and try to find any other organisations that might be able to help instead.

We try to work with local service Benevolent Funds and sometimes together we are able to provide more
expensive items which neither of us could afford separately. Many Services do not have their own Benevolent Funds
and look to us to provide this support.

We want to strengthen our links at station and locality levels by finding serving volunteers from each service
to act as our ears and eyes and to be a direct link into the ASBF when help is needed.   Hopefully they will also
encourage fundraising events and donations.  If this real “hands-on” stuff appeals to you have a word
with Simon by any means available here.

How to get help

Normally we expect applications to come through a third party.  The first step is to write to Simon Fermor,
the National Secretary, setting out the issue which gives rise to hardship, a brief history of events, the
name, age, length of service and name of the service, number of dependents and any other information
needed to complete the picture.

Exceptionally, when the situation is of a very personal or very confidential matter we accept claims
from the individual.  If this is the case, you may be asked to complete an application form which will
include your income and expenditure and other relevant information to allow us to decide if we can help
and by how much.  If you would like to make a claim for assistance direct, please click here to display
a Claim form, print it, complete the necessary details and send to the address below.

All claims are always treated in the strictest of confidence.
