"BELLS, TWO TONES & SIRENS "

Bells, Two Tones and Sirens, written by Gordon Enstone, is a personal insight, into the day-to-day operations of the Ambulance Service. From the start of basic training in 1964, through to the Paramedic Ambulance Service of the 1990’s.

From murders and suicides, to delivering babies; Major incidents involving train & plane crashes to serious accidents on the roads and motorways of Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire. It also describes the humorous side of the job as well as some of the politics in running one of the Emergency services. This book describes a long and dedicated career spanning 34 years, and takes a look at what Ambulance and Paramedic personnel deal with frequently in their daily working lives.

Gordon is a Trustee of the ASBF and will be donating some of the money received for the purchase of the book to the Benevolent Fund. Why not buy a good read and support the fund at the same time.

"BLUE LIGHTS AND LONG NIGHTS"

Les Pringle joined the Birmingham Metropolitan Ambulance Service in 1977 and retired recently from West Midlands Ambulance Service where he was a Paramedic. His first book, "Blue Lights and Long Nights" quickly sold out its first print run. He is now writing the sequel. Filled with warmth and humour, Blue Lights and Long Nights takes us back to a time when lonely old ladies could call 999 and have a cup of tea waiting when the drivers turned up for a chat; when learning to drive the ambulance meant going out for one test drive and managing not to hit a pedestrian; and every day brought a glimpse into other people's lives. From dosshouses to domestics, from a mother’s grief to high-rise drug dens, Les Pringle brings us all of human life, and death, at its best and at its worst. Gripping, poignant and darkly funny, Blue Lights and Long Nights is an affectionate, warm-hearted look at a world gone by.

Mesothelioma Survival Rate

While emergency response units have one of the most dangerous careers, you may think their main concern would be the situation at hand. There are also environmental hazards that are often overlooked while out in the field. Despite removal efforts, countless homes, schools and workplaces remain laden with asbestos. Once commonly used in construction between 1945 and 1980, asbestos that is destroyed or burned can cause fibers to be easily released into the air exposing surrounding individuals; this inevitably could cause Mesothelioma cancer
