MOBILE ROTA
The Ambulance Services Benevolent Fund is pleased to announce a new partnership with MobileRota,
aiding fundraising for the Charity.
MobileRota offers a fantastic new service for the shift worker, providing shift rotas direct to your
mobile phone. It allows you to view your rota on your mobile phone, making it easy to see future shift
patterns, including bank holidays, for up to two years in advance. The system itself is easy to use,
and shifts can be colour coded to reflect different shifts or watches, making it ideal for ambulance
service personnel. You can also view your rota via your MobileRota account on any PC, and you do
not need to subscribe to receive this service.
It is completely free to try and if you choose to subscribe it is just £4.99 for the year, and
for every
sign-up, MobileRota will donate 10% to any of their five nominated charities, one of
which is The Ambulance Services Benevolent Fund. Plus, after you sign-up there is a discount
for multiple subscribers. For example, your partner or family members may also want your rota
on their mobile phone and they can receive this at a discounted rate once you are signed up.

"BELLS, TWO TONES & SIRENS "
Bells, Two Tones and Sirens, written by Gordon Enstone, is a personal insight, into the day-to-day operations of the
Ambulance Service. From the start of basic training in 1964, through to the Paramedic Ambulance Service of the 1990’s.
From murders and suicides, to delivering babies; Major incidents involving train & plane crashes to serious accidents
on the roads and motorways of Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire. It also describes the humorous side of the
job as well as some of the politics in running one of the Emergency services. This book describes a long and
dedicated career spanning 34 years, and takes a look at what Ambulance and Paramedic personnel deal
with frequently in their daily working lives.
Gordon is a Trustee of the ASBF and will be donating some of the money received for the purchase of the book to the
Benevolent Fund. Why not buy a good read and support the fund at the same time.

Les Pringle joined the Birmingham Metropolitan Ambulance Service in 1977 and retired recently from
West Midlands
Ambulance Service where he was a Paramedic. His first book, "Blue Lights and Long Nights"
quickly sold out
its first print run. He is now writing the sequel. Filled with warmth and humour, Blue Lights and
Long Nights takes us back to a time when lonely old ladies could call 999 and have a cup of tea waiting
when the drivers turned up for a chat; when learning to drive the ambulance meant going out for one test
drive and managing not to hit a pedestrian; and every day brought a glimpse into other people's lives.
From
dosshouses to domestics, from a mother’s grief to high-rise drug dens, Les Pringle brings us all of human
life, and death, at its best and at its worst.
Gripping, poignant and darkly funny, Blue Lights and Long Nights
is an affectionate, warm-hearted look at a world gone by.

The ASBF thanks the following companies for their generous sponsorship towards the making of our very first
promotional film. This is a vital part of an ASBF strategic programme aimed at promoting the work and fund
raising needs of the Charity, which is ‘ Caring for the Carers’.
Without their support these programmes would not have been possible. The logos of the companies act as
links to their web sites - why not pay them a visit and see if you can support them by
sourcing items that you need from them.
